Grammy Award-winning harmonica virtuoso Sugar Blue is not your typical bluesman...
Born James Whiting - he was raised in Harlem, New York, where his mother was a singer and dancer at the fabled Apollo Theatre. He spent his childhood among the musicians and show people who knew his mother, including the great Billie Holiday, and decided that he wanted to be a performer.

SUNDAY JULY 31ST, CARMICHAEL PARK NEW GLASGOW

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEW GLASGOW JUBILEE, THE PICTOU COUNTY BLUES SOCIETY WILL BE PRESENTING THREE BLUES ACTS, IN THE BEAUTIFUL CARMICHAEL PARK NEW GLASGOW. THIS IS AN ALL AGES BLUES EVENT AND IS BEING OFFERED AS A FREE BLUES PERFORMANCE. THE PARK IS A LOVELY VENUE WITH LOTS OF TREES FOR SHADE AND IS ALONG SIDE THE RIVER, EASY WALKING DISTANCE TO DOWNTOWN AND THE MAIN JUBILEE FESTIVAL SITE. THIS YEAR THERE ARE GOING TO BE THREE VERY UNIQUE AND DIVERSE BLUES ACTS, SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, BRING A LAWNCHAIR AND COME ENJOY A LOVELY BREEZY BLUESY AFTERNOON BY THE RIVER. THERE WILL BE FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE WITH PROCEEDS GOING TO THE BLUES IN THE PARK.

Although not technically a blues band, Grooveback is gonna show us their old school blues act, which you won't want to miss. Don't forget, Steve Auld won the Dutch Mason "blues vocalist" contest this past summer at the blues festival. With Mathew Brennan on guitar/vocals, Jared Stanley on bass, and Jay MacLeod on the drums, they are gonna start the night off with some awesome blues and warm you all up for Ross Neilson and Sufferin' Bastards.

FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU TO ALL THE BLUES FANS WHO HAVE BEEN COMING OUT TO OUR BLUES EVENTS, WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PRESENT AND CONTINUE TO PRESENT THE SHOWS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM UP AS WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE AND WELL IN THE COUNTY. DURING OUR FIRST YEAR, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PRESENT SEVERAL MARITIME, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL BLUES ARTISTS. IN DOING SO, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE CHARITABLE DONATIONS TO MANY DESERVING GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS AS WELL. WE ALSO HOSTED THE FIRST PICTOU COUNTY BLUES IN THE SCHOOL EDUCATION PROJECT FEATURING DORIS MASON AT THE FRANK H. MACDONALD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SUTHERLANDS RIVER. DURING THE NEW GLASGOW JUBILEE THIS PAST SUMMER, WE PRESENTED IN CARMICHAEL PARK NEW GLASGOW, THE FIRST AND HOPEFULLY ANNUAL "BLUES IN THE PARK" FEATURING THE NEW GLASGOW BLUES BAND THE UNKOWNZAS WELL AS TRURO DELTA BLUES DUO, THE MCCREADY BROTHERS.
FOR OUR FIRST BLUES SHOW OF 2011, WE ARE TRILLED ONCE AGAIN TO PARTNER WITH THE TANTRAMASH BLUES SOCIETY IN PRESENTING ALL THE WAY FROM BOSTON, TONI LYNN WASHINGTON WITH GORDON "SAX" BEADLE.
