WESTVILLE – The Pictou County blues season may be winding down but there's still some time to get your mojo working.

This Friday the Pictou County Blues Society is presenting the Talisman Blues Band at the Whitetail Pub and Grill in Westville.

The non-profit society is bringing the Edmonton-based trio in as their second-last event of the season. Friday's gig is part of a 30-show tour the Talisman Blues Band is currently on before they turn around and head for a busy summer in Alberta.

Pictou County Blues Society chairwoman Katie MacDonald said groups like the Talisman Blues Band are key to the society's mandate.

"This is one of the many reasons why the Pictou County Blues Society was developed,.... yes... there are still blues bands hitting the road, taking chances playing in small towns, and when the blues society has an opportunity arise to book a band like The Talisman Blues Band... then that is what it is all about," she said. "This blues show is an extra blues event for us and we wanted to offer our blues fans and members a chance to come out to see a great touring blues band at a very reasonable price."

The Talisman Blues Band consists of Annapolis Valley native Barry Mack on guitar, Sean Stephens on bass and Rotten Dan on vocals and harmonica.

As with all shows hosted by the Pictou County Blues Society, a charitable donation will be made from the proceeds of this one. This time around a monetary donation will be made to LORDA.

Tickets are $12 and are available at Blue C Music, The Whitetail Pub and at the door. Show time is 8 p.m. For more information check out www.pictoucountyblues.com.

MacDonald said there's one more show on the society's calendar for its premiere season.

"We hope to see you all out again for this blues show, this will be our second last show for the season. We're returning June 18th with Joe Murphy and the Waterstreet Blues Band and then our next blues event will be in September."

Singing the blues

The News. Former Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant may have wanted the blues to move on by but there's a dedicated group locally who wish just the opposite.
They're all about having the blues, singing the blues, listening to the blues, enjoying the blues and they want you to have the blues as well.
The new Pictou County Blues Society formed last month "to foster appreciation, promotion, preservation and enjoyment of the blues in all of its forms in Pictou County and/or Northern Nova Scotia" so says the group's mission statement.
